'The Indian Express' and 'The Wire' faced criticism on social media for publishing news wrongly about girl's kidnapping in Uttar Pradesh. Both media has published news which claimed that Uttar Pradesh Police stopped her wedding overnight due to rumors of 'Love Jihad'.

On Twitter handle named @AskAnshul has claimed that this is fake news. According to the handle, the girl's family filed a complaint against a man for kidnapping the girl. Police handed over the girl to her family.
 
 
The same Twitter handle further claimed that the media distorted the facts and published fake news.
