A non-Muslim woman filed a complained against her husband, namely Mohammad Jasim, who is pressurising her to embrace Islam, The Avenue Mail (Jharkhand's English daily) reported.
A woman is a resident of Golmuri, Jamshedpur. At the office of Senior Superintendent of Police Jamshedpur, she has submitted a written complaint against her Muslim husband who is a resident of Albela Garden, Kapali.
According to media reports, she married Mohammad Jasim about nine months ago after running away from her parent's house. After marriage, Jasim and his relatives allegedly tortured her and put pressure on her to convert to Islam. The accused persons threatened to kill the woman for refusing to accept Islam.
The victim somehow escaped from the husband's house in the evening of Feb 12, 2020, and reached her parent's house. She said she did not want to go back to her husband’s home. She sought legal action against her in-laws and security for her parents and herself.
Before marriage, the Muslim boy assured her that she would be allowed to profess her religion even after their interfaith wedding. By keeping faith in him, the victim leaves her parents and married to him. However, after nine months, her husband broke his commitment and started forcing her to embrace Islam.
According to Muslim clerics, the non-Muslim woman must accept Islam before marrying a Muslim boy. Jharkhand has recently seen many reported cases. In January 2018, a Hindu woman namely Rama Kumari Ojha, a resident of Jamshedpur, filed a complaint against her Muslim husband Tanveer Akhtar Khan who was forcing her to embrace Islam. She was held captive for six months after she refused to convert to Islam.
