State Police have provided personal security officers to various Hindu functionaries, who are facing a threat to life, Times of India reported.
The decision was taken due to communal tension continue in the district.
According to media reports, District Superintendent of Police (SP) Sujit Kumar had earlier turned down the request of some Hindu functionaries, seeking personal security officers.
However, special branch-CID officials had sent a report to police officials in Chennai, recommending personal security officers to 11 more Hindu outfit functionaries in rural limits and another 12 in the city limits. Subsequently, Director General of Police (DGP) J K Tripathy had instructed the SP to provide them personal security officers immediately.
The communal tension arose when the Hindu Munnani (Hindu Organization) told police in the last week that a failed attempt was made to hurl a ‘petrol bomb’ at its head office in Kattoor in the city.
