To prevent the spread of Coronavirus within the followers, Vadodara Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church suspended all programmes and religious services, Ahmedabad Mirror reported.
Archbishop Emeritus Stanislaus Fernandes, the Apostolic Administrator of Baroda Diocese, announced that all religious services including mass in all churches and chapels would stand cancelled till March 31.
According to media reports, no decision has yet been taken by the heads of other dioceses in Gujarat, which include Rajkot, Ahmedabad and the Archdiocese of Gandhinagar.
Archbishop of Gandhinagar Thomas Macwan said that a decision on cancelling Sunday liturgy in churches across Gujarat is yet to be taken.
Father Vinayak Jadav, the spokesperson for the Catholic Church in Gujarat, said, “The Catholic Church of Gujarat commits itself to keep a close watch on the development of the pandemic in Gujarat and urges Catholic faithful to take every precaution in curbing the virus.”
