The Supreme Patriarch has donated 2 million baht for the purchase of face masks for monks across the country to protect themselves from Covid-19, said Prime Minister's Office Minister Tewan Liptapallop, Bangkok Post reported.
He said the masks would be given to monks, as well as temple visitors. Each temple will also be disinfected every week.
“To take care of monks, we have asked monks in temples popular with tourists to clean their area every day and spray disinfectants if possible,” he said.
Temples are considered vulnerable sites for Covid-19 transmission due to large gatherings of worshippers.
Mr Tewan said the temples had been encouraged to remain open as usual to guide people facing troubles caused by the spread of the virus.
"Temples are vulnerable spots, but they have to remain open because religions help people," said Mr Tewan.
