The Health Ministry of Sri Lanka on Saturday (April 11, 2020) announced that the bodies of deceased victims of Coronavirus would be cremated to prevent any potential biological threat.
Sri Lanka's Health Minister Dr Pavithra Wanniarachchi said that the body should be burned at a temperature between 800 to 1200 degree Celsius for a minimum period of 45 minutes to one hour.
The minority community accused Sri Lanka's authorities claiming that such order is the violation of Islamic burial rites. It also said the body should not be washed and placed in a sealed bag and a coffin, as against the Islamic practice of washing the body.
Muslims account for 10 per cent of Sri Lanka's 21 million populations.
