A total of 129 people have been arrested so far for their alleged involvement in clashes between two communities in Telinipara in West Bengal's Hooghly district, PTI reported.
"Strong action has been taken against miscreants in Telinipara, Hooghly. 129 persons have so far been arrested, and more will be arrested. Senior officers along with a large number of forces, are patrolling the area round the clock," the Home Department tweeted.
While talking to media, Locket Chatterjee, Member of Parliament from Chandannagar Lok Sabha constituency, said, "The Muslims broke the barricades and insisted on entering the Hindu-majority area. After Hindus objected, the Muslims attacked the Hindus."
Videos of violence were circulated on social media. The district administration has suspended internet services. Police have also conducted peace march.
