High Court refuses to admit Bishop Franco’s plea to stay rape case

The Kerala High Court has not admitted the plea of Bishop Franco Mulakkal to stay the on-going rape case of the 44-year old nun, Goa Chronicle reported.

Bishop Franco Mulakkal is the first Bishop in India to be arrested for raping and sodomizing a 44-year old Nun, 13 times.
 
Members of the Catholic Church close to Bishop Franco Mulakkal have tried to intimidate and threaten the 44-year old Nun post the filing of the rape case with Kerala Police.
 
The first nun of Missionaries of Jesus had accused Franco of raping her multiple times at the Kuruvilangadu convent in Kottayam. The FIR in the case was registered in June 2018.
 
Then after protests, Franco was arrested on September 21, 2018.
 
The charge sheet in the case was submitted in April 2019. In the charge sheet, Bishop Franco Mullackal has been charged under various sections of the IPC: 342 (wrongful confinement), 376 (2k) (rape on a woman incapable of giving consent), 376 (2n) (causing grievous bodily harm during rape), 376 (c) (a) 377 (unnatural offence) and 506 (1) (criminal intimidation).
 
The Trial Court of Kochi has also warned Bishop Franco Mulakkal of arrest for his failure to attend Court hearings and seeking adjournments 13 times.
