MP High Court dismisses bail plea of Munawar Faruqui in case for hurting of religious sentiments

The Indore Bench of Madhya Pradesh (MP) High Court rejected the bail applications of comedian Munawar Faruqui and his aide Nalin Yadav after they were arrested earlier in January 2021 for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. The Bench said it is the constitutional duty of every citizen to promote brotherhood and harmony.

Faruqui and four others were arrested after the son of a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Madhya Pradesh filed a complaint accusing Faruqui of passing indecent remarks about Hindu deities and Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a show. A local Court then sent them to judicial custody.
