The Mangalore College, which is administered by the Society of Jesus in India, decided to name their park after Jesuit Father Swamy. However, the residents opposed the administration and said that they would protest against the administration.
The students said that it is an insult to society if the park is named after accused Father Stan Swamy. They further said that the college could name the park after renowned politicians and college’s alumni such as Oscar Fernandes or George Fernandes, who had contributed to the society.
After strong opposition from students, the college has postponed the naming of the park.
