Muslim protests turn violent, two cops injured in Maharashtra

Muslim mobs took out protest rallies across the Maharashtra which turned violent in several places. In Nanded, stones were pelted at police vans and two police personnel sustained injuries at Deglur Naka and Shivaji Nagar. Protestors were also seen torching shops of non-Muslims and police vehicles in Malegaon and Amravati, following which the riot squad was called in to quell the protests.

In Malegaon, a communally sensitive town in Nashik district, Muslim protestors gathered to protest against the controversial content connected with Tripura protests on the persecution of Hindus in Bangladesh.
In Amravati, over 8,000 Muslims gathered outside the district collector's office to submit a memorandum. After submitting the memorandum, they started stone-pelting in three places between Chitra Chowk and Cotton Market, a police official told PTI.
Police said that members of the Muslim community have not taken the permission of the protest.
"No permission was given to the protest rally. We are registering a case against the protesters and action would be taken accordingly," said Vikram Sali, DCP, Amravati.
In these violance, thousands of shops of non-Muslims and public properties have been destroyed. These protests were also supported in various places by some political parties, namely, the Indian National Congress, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Samajwadi Party.
