The Akhila Bharatha Veerashaiva Mahasabha has decided to launch a reconversion drive for community members. Akhila Bharatha Veerashaiva Mahasabha is the highest decision-making body for the Veerashaiva-Lingayat community.
In a circular distributed to its district and taluk units throughout Karnataka, the Mahasabha asked them to conduct household surveys to find Lingayats who have converted to other religions. In addition, it has requested that local units organise reconversion events with the assistance of local mutts. On December 23, Mahasabha representatives will discuss the issue at their next meeting.
“We will collect data from the districts and then decide on the modalities of the drive,” said Mahasabha’s President Shamanur Shivashankarappa.
