Ahead of the Losar festival, Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu extend Losar greetings

Just a day ahead of the Losar Festival, Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has conveyed his best and greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion of Losar. He expressed his hope that Losar, the New Year festival of the Buddhist community will usher-in amity and prosperity in the State.

In a message this evening, Khandu said, “A very happy Losar, the first day of the Wood Iron-Ox year of 2148. Let’s close out the old year and bid goodbye to all its bad aspects and negativities and invite all good, auspicious things into our homes and our lives."
He added, “I pray Lord Buddha on this holy occasion to bestow our people with good health and prosperity. Let this year be the end of the Corona pandemic and all sentient beings live in peace and harmony with nature."
Losar, a popular festival of the Arunachali Monpas is celebrated to mark the advent of spring and the first day of the lunar calendar. Losar in a literal sense means "New Year." The term Losar is made of two words, ‘Lo’-which means year and ‘Sar’ - meaning new. The festival is observed to ward off evil spirits and welcome the New Year that shall be filled with happiness and prosperity.
Arunachali monpas tribes living in the Tawang district of Arunachal Pradesh will celebrate the festival with great pomp and show They are going to celebrate this festival for 15 days, with the main celebrations on the first three days.
