‘Female cartoon characters on TV must wear Hijab,’ says Iran’s supreme leader

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the supreme leader of Iran ordered that Female character in cartoons and animated films are supposed to be presented in Hijab. He issued the ‘fatwa’ on February 22, 2021. On the other hand, some political activists in Iran condemned the ‘fatwa’, and said it is 'toxic'.

According to the Iranian news agency, in a statement, Khamenei said, “Although wearing hijab in such a hypothetical situation is not required per se, observing hijab in animation is required due to the consequences of not wearing a hijab.”
 
A fatwa is a declaration or ruling on a point of Islamic law, which is not legally binding but is given by a recognised higher authority.
