Nagpur, Feb 2 : The Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court has recently asked the State govt whether the Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan that is responsible for the Shegaon shrine is formed under the Maharashtra Labor Welfare Fund Act, 1953. The HC has also sought for the govt to inform if the services that the trust provides about managing the affairs of the shrine without any charge, are also practiced by employees under the same law and paid wages.
The division bench that comprised of justices Nitin Jamdar and Anil Kilor issued these directives. The bench was hearing a plea of the Gajanan Maharaj Sansthan, that challenged Akola labour commissioner’s orders asking it to deposit Rs 2.68 lakh with its office on the pretext that it had employed over 800 employees for managing its affairs. The case was filed in 2006 and has been pending for over 14 years.
