Christian organization Aid to the Church in Need (ACN) financed the reconstruction of the houses of Christian families which were desecrated by Islamic State militants in Iraq. ACN is a Pontifical Foundation, whose mission is to help persecuted and oppressed Christians worldwide.
ACN claimed that about 120000 Christians were forced to flee from Nineveh Plain in Iraq. Their houses were badly destroyed by Islamic State militants. ACN further claimed that due to financial aid provided for the reconstruction of Christian houses, 45% of fled Christians have already returned.
Nineveh Plains situated at the northeast of the city of Mosul in the Iraqi Nineveh Governorate. The Nineveh Plains is the only region in Iraq where a plurality of inhabitants follows Syriac Christianity.
