Members said that the Supreme Court had ordered the 50% reservation for minority communities in minority educational institutions, but its implementation has not yet been initiated in the State.
Walter Fernandez, president of the youth department of MAKVP, took initiative and arranged the meeting of members with the State Education Minister and State President of the Indian National Congress in Mumbai.
In October 2006, the Maharashtra Government declared Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, Parsis and Jains as religious minorities. In 2016, Jews were also declared as a minority community in Maharashtra. There are nearly a thousand State approved minority institutions in Maharashtra.
