Church complex built on seventh century-old cave temple

A Twitter profile Reclaim Temples claimed that a Church complex has been constructed on top of the 7th-century Thirumalapuram cave temple which is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The site is located in the Tirunelveli district of Tamil Nadu.

It further claimed that this ancient Pandyan cave temple with monolithic Shivalinga is under the Archaeological Survey of India. The temple hill is entirely encroached by Christian missionaries, Reclaim Temples claimed.

Several complaints of encroachment on Hindu sites have been reported in Tamil Nadu's Christian dominated region. The Christian population in Tamil Nadu is more than the national average.
 
The total number of Christians in Tamil Nadu as per the 2011 Indian census is 4,418,331 which form 6.12% of the total population of Tamil Nadu. Christians are mainly concentrated in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu – Kanyakumari (46% of the population), Thoothukudi (16.68%) and Tirunelveli (10.59%).
