Dharmshala, March 02: Himachal Pradesh Government has declared Gyuto Tantric monastery as a containment zone, after more than 150 Buddhist monks tested positive for COVID-19 in the monastery.
According to the state government, a total, 156 monks have been diagnosed positive for the COVID-19 and the entire locality has been now declared as a containment zone.
Around one hundred Buddhist monks from Gyuto Monastery in Dharamshala have tested positive for COVID19 today. Total of 156 monks have tested positive in the monastery. This locality has been declared as a containment zone," Kangra Chief Medical Officer Dr Gurdarshan Gupta said.
The Gyuto Tantric Monastery here is an important institution of the Geluk school of Tibetan Buddhism where monks from Tibet, Mongolia, Ladakh, Sikkim, and Spiti are resident students of Buddhist studies.
