Buddhist Spiritual leader the Dalai Lama received his first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine in Dharamshala, on Mar 6. He received the dose at Dharamshala's Zonal Hospital early morning. Regular post-vaccination procedure was followed and he was kept under observation for about half an hour. His Holiness the Dalai Lama, who is 86-year-old was, had self-quarantined himself since Jan 2020, and it was only during the vaccination that he had come out of his residence, after over a year.
According to Palden, the Health Secretary of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA), the CTA had requested the state and central government to make arrangements for the spiritual leader's vaccination nearly two months ago. The records of the Union Health Ministry suggest that there are currently 589 active COVID-19 cases in Himachal Pradesh and as many as 57,428 recoveries and 997 deaths have been reported in the State so far.
