The Government deployed security forces to restrict the mass gathering at Jama Masjid in Delhi on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr. Delhi is under strict lockdown due Coronavirus pandemic. Due to the sudden rise in daily cases, Delhi's Health Department is under stress. Keeping in mind that Muslims may gather with a huge number for the prayer, forces have been deployed early morning.
Eid marks the end of the month-long fasting period of Ramadan. The religious festival is celebrated in the month of Shawwal. This year, it will begin on the evening of May 13 and will continue until the evening of May 14.
Like the beginning, the end of the fasting period also depends on the sighting of the moon. The crescent moon is first seen in Saudi Arabia, and it is only after that the rest of the world celebrates the festival. The date of Eid, hence, differs from country to country.
