The heads of the two churches Bishop Paritosh Canning, who belonged to the Kolkota Diocese of Chuch of North India (CNI) and Archbishop Thomas D'souza, who belonged to the Kolkata Archdiocese of the Roman Catholic Church, have sent their message to all Church priests and associated missionaries that the vaccination is the only way in which the pandemic can be fought, Times of India reported.
According to the report, all priests and Church workers of 35 CNI churches, and most priests and missionaries of Catholic Church have received their first dose of the Covid vaccine.
In May 2021, The Vatican had confirmed that around 166 Church priests have died in the second wave of Coronavirus in India. It was also reported that the number may be higher. In many Churches, the workers in the cemetery have denied the burial of Covid victims due to fear of Covid infection. Some news have also been reported regarding the lack of burial space in the church cemetery in May 2011.
