The incidents of church burning come within a month of the discovery of children's mass graves at Church-run Residential School sites. On June 24, more than 750 unmarked graves were found near a former Catholic boarding school for indigenous children in Saskatchewan province of Canada. The graves were discovered on the site of the Marieval Indian residential school. The Roman Catholic Church operated the Marieval Indian Residential School from 1899 to 1997.
