In view of the Coronavirus pandemic, Assam Government has prohibited mass gatherings for the celebration of Bakra Eid. The State Health Minister Keshab Mahanta urged the people to celebrate the festival at their homes and added that prayers at mosques will be allowed with a maximum of five persons.
However, Kerala Government has relaxed the restrictions to celebrate the Bakra Eid in the State. After the announcement, a plea has been filed against the Kerala Government seeking a stay on relaxation in Covid-19 restrictions. The plea said that the announcement is politically motivated. The plea further claimed that it is shocking that the Government is playing with the lives of citizens through such measures in a medical emergency. The political interest and cause cannot overcome the fundamental rights of the citizens, the plea said. However, the Supreme Court has asked the Kerala Government to give the explanation.
