Uttar Pradesh Police arrested a Muslim man after allegations of forced conversion of the daughter of an IAS officer. The accused is identified as Arif Hashmi, a timber businessman in Lucknow.
According to the police, Arif introduced himself as Aditya. After their friendship, the couple got married in 2010. After some years of marriage, the woman came to know about the man's real identity. When Arif got exposed, he started forcing her to convert to Islam. When she refused, he started torturing and blackmailing, IANS reported.
Superintendent of Police (SP) City, Botre Rohan Pramod, said, "We have registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and under anti-conversion law. The accused has been arrested on Sunday (July 4), and further investigations are underway."
