A rape victim who had filed a plea in Supreme Court rejected the plea of a rape victim who wanted to marry her rapist. Earlier, her rapist Church priest Robin Vadakkumchery had also filed a plea in Kerala High Court (HC) to marry the same girl. However, HC rejected his appeal.
A single bench of Justice Sunil Thomas at the High Court had refused to suspend the accused' sentence for marriage, saying that judicial approval cannot be granted to marriage when the findings of the trial court that a minor was raped are in force.
The Supreme Court opined that the observations were made by the High Court after examining all aspects of the case and stated that it does not wish to disturb that order. The Court said that the parties can raise their grievances before the High Court, where Robin's criminal appeal filed against the sentence imposed by Special POCSO Court Thalassery in 2019 is pending, Live Law reported.
