Thousands of people have signed an online petition calling for the Catholic Church's charitable work to be halted over its response to the boarding school file. Petition organizer David Thompson said the Church betrayed survivors and that the financial consequences were the only thing that would spur change. More than 6,000 people have so far signed the petition on Change.org.

Thompson also said he was frustrated to hear that some Catholic bodies are only now considering full release of residential school documents — many of which have yet to be released.

He was further angered when he learned that the Church was spending more than $300 million on construction projects while telling the judge they couldn’t raise $25 million for survivors. He said he was also disappointed by reports that millions of dollars for the survivors went to Catholic Church attorneys, administration and bad loans.
