Well-known author and filmmaker Vivek Ranjan Agnihotri informed from his social media profile that his directed film 'The Kashmir Files' is re-releasing on January 19, 2023, on the occasion of the Kashmiri Hindu Genocide Day.
On his Twitter profile, Agnihotri wrote, "#TheKashmirFiles is re-releasing on 19th January - The Kashmiri Hindu Genocide Day. This is the first time ever a film is releasing twice in a year. If you missed watching it on BIG SCREEN, book your tickets NOW."
Kashmiri Hindus observe January 19 as their exodus day because on this day in the year 1990, they were forced to leave Kashmir by local Muslims sloganeering "cheliv galiv ya raliv (leave, die, or convert)". Several reports claimed that over one lakh Kashmiri Hindus left Kashmir and took refuge in Jammu and other parts of the country. In this period of exodus, a significant number of Kashmiri Hindu women were kidnapped, raped, and murdered by Muslim separatists. They also killed the Kashmiri Hindu men in public places and attacked their homes. According to the Panun Kashmir organisation, about 1,341 Hindus have been killed since 1990 in Kashmir. Home Ministry of India recorded 1,406 Hindu civilian fatalities from 1991 to 2005.
