Uttar Pradesh Police has revealed that they have found that the religious conversions of poor people to Christianity have been done by giving them forty thousand rupees in cash.

On March 13, 2023, Hindi portal Amar Ujala reported that the two accused, arrested by UP Police over unlawful religious conversion charges, told police that their target was to convert illiterate Hindus living in slum areas in Chanakyapuri in Kanpur. The accused were identified as Rajat and Abhijeet. During interrogation, police also found that more than 250 people were converted to Christianity on the eve of Christmas 2022.
 
So far, police have recovered seven bank accounts. Out of seven, in three accounts, police found that a significant amount of funds were transferred from abroad. This amount was distributed to convert targeted people. Police have started listing and contacting these fraudulently converted people.
