A Governor appointed by Taliban Government and three others were killed in a massive explosion in Mazar-e-Sharif, Afghanistan, on March 9, 2023. However, no organization has taken responsibility so far.
Mohammad Asif Waziri, a spokesman for the local
police chief in the Taliban Government, said the explosion occurred inside the Governor's office in Mazar-e Sharif. Three people were killed, including a Taliban-appointed Provincial Governor.
Asif Waziri said, "The Governor of Balkh, Mohammad Dawood Muzammil, and two people were killed in an explosion this morning."
Mohammad Dawood Muzammil was reportedly among the top-ranking officials of the Taliban. The Government spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid tweeted, "He was martyred in an explosion set off by the enemies of
Islam."
No organization has yet claimed responsibility for the attack, but ISKP, a part of the terrorist group
Islamic State (
ISIS), is believed to have carried out the incident. Since taking over the country in August 2021, violent incidents between the Taliban and the ISKP have increased.
