In his speech in Maharashtra Assembly, Maharashtra's Women and Child Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha said that more than one lakh cases of love jihad have been reported in the State. The Minister published his piece of speech on his social media profile on March 9.
The Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha said that more than one lakh cases of love jihad have come to light in Maharashtra, due to which the society is distressed. Love Jihad is the term used for the conversion of non-Muslim
girls and boys to Islam
by entrapping them into love. He further said that because of such alleged Love Jihad cases, he formed the Inter-Faith Marriage
Committee for the safety of those who married a person belonging to another religion.
During his speech, Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha hailed the law on triple talaq. On July 30, 2019, the Parliament of India declared the practice of Triple Talaq
illegal and unconstitutional and made it a punishable act from August 1, 2019. Three of India's neighbouring countries — Pakistan
and Sri Lanka
— are among the 23 countries worldwide that have banned triple talaq.
