In his speech in Maharashtra Assembly, Maharashtra's Women and Child Development Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha said that more than one lakh cases of love jihad have been reported in the State. He also said that it is the responsibility of the State Government to stop cases like Shraddha Walker's murder. The Minister hailed Central Government for passing a law on triple talaq. The Minister published his piece of speech on his social media profile on March 9.

The Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha said that more than one lakh cases of love jihad have come to light in Maharashtra, due to which the society is distressed. Love Jihad is the term used for the conversion of non-Muslim girls and boys to Islam by entrapping them into love. He further said that because of such alleged Love Jihad cases, he formed the Inter-Faith Marriage Committee for the safety of those who married a person belonging to another religion.
 
 
 
 
During his speech, Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha hailed the law on triple talaq. On July 30, 2019, the Parliament of India declared the practice of Triple Talaq illegal and unconstitutional and made it a punishable act from August 1, 2019. Three of India's neighbouring countries — Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka — are among the 23 countries worldwide that have banned triple talaq.
